Apparatus for straightening elongate flexible materials such as wires and the like for use with an apparatus in the production of such wires including a tensioning device for engaging at least one end of the flexible material while driving that end outwardly until the flexible material has been drawn taut whereby the taut wire trips switching means to stop the driving of the end outwardly, and the length of the flexible material is engaged by gripping means of a conveyor system for further conveying in the apparatus.
