An element which is transparent to X-rays and other penetrating rays is composed of a number of thin layers of partially condensed polyimide, which are fully condensed after they are brought together as a stack. The desired thickness for a support of an X-ray screen can be obtained, without the need for machining from a casting, and without loss of permeability, as occurs when a thick layer (1 mm) is produced.
