1415909 Making frames; making boxes S KURODA 20 March 1973 [7 Sept 1972] 13411/73 Headings B5L and B5D [Also in Division B8] A method of making a box or pallet frame, e.g. as in Fig. 3A, comprises placing a plurality of battens 1 in spaced parallel relation on a conveyer, placing on the battens on the conveyer a number of planks 2 crosswise of the battens, the surface areas of the battens and/or planks which contact the planks and/or battens having applied to them an adhesive or solvent or consisting of a heat-meltable material for thermoplastic bonding, and bonding the battens and planks together under pressure on the conveyer. Battens 1 from a hopper 6 are received in spaced parallel relation on a belt conveyer 5, and planks 2 from a hopper 7 are applied thereto by a feed arm 8. If the contact surfaces of the battens and planks are of thermoplastic material e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene, P.V.C. or A.B.S. resin hot air is supplied from nozzles 11. Alternatively the nozzles 11 supply adhesive or a solvent, or adhesive or solvent may be dropped on to the battens. A pressure belt 12 acts to secure the planks to the battens. The conveyer 5 may pass through a tunnel oven. If desired each frame so formed may be turned over on the conveyer 5 and further planks applied to the other sides of the battens as shown. Alternatively the battens are supplied by a double roller conveyer and planks are applied to the upper and lower faces thereof simultaneously before the assembly passes between upper and lower pressure belts.
