The design is particularly intended for aerial ropeways and the brakes operate against the cable or rail. The particular feature is that the brake operation and brake movement can be precisely and reliably controlled. There is a lubricating block between the brake block (4) and the cable (3) or rail. This maintains a constant friction coefficient under different temperature conditions. The lubricating material is mounted directly onto the lining (6) of the brake block (4) or is mixed with the brake lining material. Alternatively the lubricating blocks can be inset into the brake lining keeping the metallic brake lining section and the lubricating lining separate. The lubricating material is a sintered graphite/bronze mix.
