1421152 Melting aluminium BRITISH STEEL CORP 23 March 1973 [24 March 1972] 13886/72 Heading C7D Aluminium is melted by injecting fuel oil and oxygen into an aluminium containing vessel and combusting the fuel oil therein. The fuel oil and oxygen may be injected into an L.D. converter containing aluminium by way of a lance and a metal salt containing flux may be added to the melt (e.g. containing potassium chloride, sodium chloride, aluminium chloride and cryalite). The flux may comprise two double salts of differing viscosities the lower viscosity salt being added before the aluminium is charged to the vessel and the higher viscosity salt being added after the aluminium is charged or vice versa. The molten aluminium may be cast in ingot form or poured into a tundish and atomized using an inert gas to produce shot.
|
