1421368 Invalid lifting device A N CLIFTON 1 April 1974 [24 May 1973] 24864/73 Heading B8H [Also in Division B7] An invalid carriage carries a seat which is slidably and nontiltably engaged or disengaged with a cantilever arm on the carriage, the arm being movable in a substantially vertical direction. As shown in Fig. 1 the cantilever arm 22 of square cross-section is inserted in square holes (not shown) in side plates 20, 21 of a tubular frame seat 18. The back of seat 18 may be collapsible. For the purpose of transfer of an invalid from seat 18, the seat is swung in a horizontal plane from its normal position about pivot 24 into the position shown in Fig. 1, and the seat lowered by jack 30 on to say, an automobile seat. Pin 23 is removed and carriage 10 together with the cantilever 22 is pulled away leaving the seat 18 behind. If a person is to be removed from a bed, the back of the seat is hinged to lie flat and one arm rest is detached so that the invalid can be rolled on to the seat which is placed flat on the bed. In a modification the upper and lower fittings 25, 26 are combined into a single box. Instead of only the lower support 25 being rigidly attached to sleeve 27 of pillar 11, Fig. 1, both fittings 25, 26 can be combined in a single box and welded to sleeve 27. Also, a further vertical pillar may be attached to chassis member 12b to support corner 19r of the seat frame 19 when in its normal position. Chassis members 12b, 12c, which are held apart by a cross-bar are pivotable on point 15 on plate 15a which also carries pivoted arms 16, 17 of castor wheels 16a, 17a. The arms 16, 17 have radius rods 16b, 17b which may each be replaced by a spring loaded pin passing through a corresponding arm and engaging one of several holes in the plate 15a. |
