A transfer cylinder between two stages of a colour printing machine has a suction mechanism to remove the sheet from the first printing drum and transfer it to the next drum using radial arms attached to the cylinder (6) with heads which pivot about a sleeve (H). These heads carry rectangular section suction tubes parallel to the cylinder surface, from which extend a set of suction nozzles (10, 12). In the sheet receiving position, these heads are swung inwards facing each other, then in the release position, are swung outwards.
