The oxidizing gas may be pure O 2 , 02-enriched air, or O 2 with a small quantity, e.g. 5% of Ar, N2, steam or atomized water. The protectant may be fuel oil, and the jets may be introduced through holes in walls or floor of the furnace, e.g. an electric arc furnace. When scorification of the Cr begins, the jet may comprise O 2 with 50%-70% Ar, N 2 , steam or atomized water, which acts as a diluent for the CO produced. A lance supplying the oxidizing gas to the surface may be employed in addition to the submerged jets.</p> |
