摘要 <p>1423277 Securing lids to containers TETRA PAK DEVELOPPMENT SA 5 Dec 1973 [8 Dec 1972] 56438/73 Heading B8C [Also in Division B5] A foam plastics closure panel 38 is joined to a filled container (40), Fig. 3 (not shown), by heating a portion of the panel 38 by heating jaws 39 so that it melts, while the container (40) is maintained at room or ambient temperature, and joining the panel 38 and the container (40) whereby the surface portion of the container (40) which is brought into contact with the molten portion of the panel 38 rapidly melts and the container (40) functions as heat dissipating means to provide rapid hardening of the molten portions. As shown, a mould 11 is movably attached to a vertically reciprocable machine element 10 and comprises an inverted cup-shaped means 12 having an inwardly directed shoulder 14 with an annular recess 15 and a coolant channel 16. A circular section stem 13 extends upwardly from the means 12 and has a widened portion 17 movable in a bore 19 in the element 10. Downward movement of the means 12 is limited by engagement of the portion 17 with a shoulder 42 and upward movement by engagement of the means 12 with a collar 43 on the element 10. A plug 20 closes the upper end of the bore 19 and compressed air can be supplied to the space between the portion 17 and the plug 20 through a channel 25. A suction plate 28 is secured to a stem 44 extending through a bore 41 of the stem 13 and is urged downwardly by a spring 31. Suction is produced through an opening 30 in the plate surface by connection of a channel 29 to a suction source. A clamping device 34 is mounted inside the means 12 and comprises a number of elements each having a downwardly directed flange 35 and a flange 36 acted on by a spring 37. In operation, a panel 38 is placed on the plate 28 so that its edges bear against the shoulder 14. Heating jaws 39, Fig. 2, are moved inwardly into contact with the edge of the panel 38 to heat this edge, the container (40) remaining unheated. The jaws 39 are removed and the element 10 is lowered so that the panel 38 engages the upper edge of the container (40). Upon continued downward movement of the element 10, the plate 28 is urged into the means 12 against the spring 31. This movement may be impeded slightly by supplying compressed air through the channel 25. The lower edge of the means 12 bends the edges of the panel 38 downwardly. The plate 28 engages the flanges 36 and tilts the device 34 so that the flanges 35 press the edges of the panel 38 against the cool container (40) to effect joining, Fig. 3 (not shown).</p>
