<p>1425845 Refining manganese and iron ores DEEPSEA VENTURE Inc 26 April 1973 [26 April 1972 27 Nov 1972] 19796/73 Heading C1A Refining ocean floor nodule ore containing mainly oxides of tetravalent manganese and iron and also copper, cobalt and nickel compounds by halidating the nodule ore with an aqueous solution of a hydrogen halide under reducing conditions to form an aqueous solution of the metal halides, removing the solid residue, separating the iron values from the solution and recovering the remaining metals. The iron values may be converted to insoluble ferric oxide which can be separated or as ferric halide by contact with a water immiscible liquid extraction medium to leave an iron-free raffinate, and an iron halide solution which may be recycled and contacted with the ore as a partial halidation prior to the main halidation. The other metal may be separated by using selective liquid ion exchange reagents.</p> |
