The bobbin is held by a mandrel with at least one removable check plate, this mandrel serving to provide structural support for the bobbin during the winding, resisting axial and radial forces. The mandrel core (4) and cheeks incorporate several grooves (5, 6), with radial grooves terminating in circumferential grooves; and a bobbin comprises at least two co-axial rings (1) joined by several equally spaced 'U' pieces (2), the webs of these latter aligning parallel to the ring axis and their legs aligning radially and leg ends joining respective rings. 'U' pieces can site inside or outside the rings and are of wire of circular cross-section. |
