Measurement and recording of vehicle inclination angle - using simple liquid level device with floats and indicators

A simple level displaying and in a developed form, recording device for monitoring the inclination to horizontal of a road or rail vehicle, is presented. A device of this kind is useful in the construction and maintenance of track and road. It consists basically simply of a U tube containing a coloured liquid, with the levels of liquid in the two vertical lips of the tube indicating the inclination. In a more developed form, floats are used to transmit these levels to indicators, or recording equipment, via a needle and lever arrangement, comprising wire guides above and below each float.
