To produce tubular steel rollers from cylindrical blanks, a roller press is used. The press has two tapered pins in axial alignment such that a heated blank can be clamped between them. Three coplanar driven rollers (12) on swivel arms (11) are then forced against the outside diameter of the blank during the rolling operation. The roller arms (11) are linked together by levers so that a single hydraulic cylinder produces synchronised motion. The form rollers (12) can have different shapes so that steel rollers of various profiles can be produced.
