There are at least three layers in it, and apart from binding medium the two outside layers mainly comprise expanded mica, and the inner layer, or layers, perlite or pumice. The binding medium may contain a duroplastic synthetic resin, and/or an inorganic binding medium may contain water glass. In manufacture expanded mica granulate and perlite or mica granulate are each coated with a binding medium, and three successive layers are produced, the compound being if necessary precompressed to a briquette shape and then pressed into a panel in a heated press. A high degree of rigidity is obtained.
