A device used to ligate a blood vessel comprises a disc-shaped member 1, through holes or slots in which is threaded a ligature 5, arranged to provide a noose 8 to be held tight about the blood vessel by a loop 7 of the ligature and by a enlarged or knotted end 6. In embodiments, the ligature is threaded through the disc-shaped member in various ways and, as illustrated in Figures 5 and 6 (not shown), the noose is held between the member and a bar (22) fitted in a groove in the member. The ligature is of catgut, cotton, silk, or nylon, and the member 1, which is about 1 or 2mm. in diameter, is of nylon, stainless steel, or of a gelatin absorbable in the body.. The surface of the member 1 may be roughened. |
