Universal coupling with torque-transmitting barrelled teeth - has ball joint to support coupling parts for angular motion

Universal coupling between two parts comprises barrelled teeth (5) on the exterior of the one part (4) engaging corresponding recesses in the interior of the other part (3) thereby to transmit torque while allowing angular motion between the parts. The parts are supported one on the other for said angular motion by a ball joint (10) situated in the hollow interior of the one part, latter part having a part-spherical socket (12) engaged by a part-spherical head (11) secured to the other part. The ball joint may be arranged to locate the parts axially or to allow limited axial motion.
