The flexible joint consists of an inner bush with a spherical outer surface which is bonded by vulcanisation to a rubber bush. the rubber bush has a concentric outer spherical surface which fits in a ring forming part of a mounting bracket. Similar joints are embodied in the cross link and tie-rods of the suspension. this type of joint can accommodate all directions of relative movement between the mechanical members which they join together. That is to say that in addition to the relative axial motion the rubber bush can accommodate a rotary motion of the ends of the bearing pin axis or the so-called 'conical' motion. |
