Determn of solids content in liquids - using drying and irradiation followed by combustion to distinguish organic and inorganic constituents

Process for determining the inorganic and organic content of liquids filters a continuous sample stream onto a continuous belt and checks the quantity by an irradiation method. The samle stream is fed uniformly onto the filter band, dried and irradiated, which gives a value for the combined organic and inorganic material. The organic material is then destroyed by heating to its decomposition or combustion temp. and the residual material then rechecked giving the inorganic content. The filter band can move at a controlled speed and the sample stream is at a controlled rate. The belt speed is slow enough to ensure strong concn. of the solids on it. Used to check the solids content of effluents and sewage. A system for checking total solids using batchwise sampling is known. This system allows for continuous sampling and for distinction between organic and inorganic content.
