Herbicidal compositions comprising an active herbicidal compound and antidote therefor and the methods of use; the antidote compounds correspond to halogenated ketones having the formula O PARALLEL R1-C-R2 wherein R1 is halocycloalkyl, lower alkyl, lower haloalkyl, phenyl, benzyl and p-tolyl, and R2 is lower haloalkyl, alpha -halobenzyl, haloacetonyl and haloalkylenecarboalkoxy, provided that when R2 is difluoromonochloromethyl, R1 is other than monofluorodichloromethyl.
