PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the service life of an optical scan device included in an image formation apparatus.SOLUTION: An optical scan device which performs irradiation on a photoreceptor for the purpose of image formation by scanning an optical beam comprises: a light source; a rotary polygon mirror which reflects the optical beam output from the light source with a plurality of mirror surfaces for deflection; a drive unit which rotationally drives the rotary polygon mirror; a beam detection unit which detects the optical beam; and a control unit which controls the light source and the drive unit. The control unit has a function for adjusting the rotational speed of the rotary polygon mirror by controlling the drive unit by using the detection result of the beam detection unit, and includes a high definition mode for controlling the rotational speed of the rotary polygon mirror highly accurately at the time of normal optical beam irradiation, and a light source service life reduction mode for performing the optical beam irradiation with the controlled output of the light source while keeping the rotary polygon mirror rotating during stand-by in which image formation is not performed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8 |
