The pendant ether groups preferably contain at least one ionic or ionizable group, e.g. a carboxyl, sulpho, phospho, quaternary ammonium or substituted ammonium group which makes the product suitable for use as an ion exchange resin. In the examples polyhydroxy methylene is etherified with 3 - chloro - 2 - hydroxypropyl - trimethyl ammonium hydrochloride; glycidyl trimethyl ammonium chloride; 2-chloroethane-sulphonic acid; 2-chloroethyl diethylamine; chloroacetic acid; dichloroacetic acid and trichloroacetic acid. |
