Thiazolidineacetic acid esters of formula (I): (where R1 is lower alkyl; R2 is lower alkyl or aralkyl; and R3 is lower alkyl, aralkyl or a gp. -(CH2)m-NR4R5 in which m is 0, 1, 2 or 3 and R4 and R5 are lower alkyl or hydroxyalkyl or NR4R5 is a 4-5C satd. heterocyclic ring), e.g., 3-methyl-5-ethyl-5-phenyl-4-oxo-DELTA2, alpha-thiazolidineacetic acid ethyl ester, and when R3 contains a basic gp., their pharmacologically tolerable salts are new cpds. (I) have hepatoprotectant and curative-antihepatotoxic activity (better than that of similar cpds. disclosed in DT 1168912 and 1160441), without undesired choleretic or other side-effects. Oral dosage for humans is generally ca. 50-500 mg. per dose.
