<p>Automatic optical coin tester has light source, one or more light beam receivers and optical element in path of beams. The light source illuminates the test piece. The optical element is arranged in the path of beams between the light source, the test piece and the light beam receiver. It contains information on a selected area of the stamped relief of a referenc coin. Information is passed into the optical element (H') in the form of beam deflecting elements on the local distribution of relief inclination angles of the reference coin.
