A screwdriver is fitted with an accessory to prevent damage to or scratching the surface of e.g. a panel which is to be secured by the screws. The shank of the screwdriver, which may have a square section end (1) remote from the tip, for a driving tool, is enclosed by a sleeve (2). The tip (4) protrudes only sufficiently to engage the screw head. Thus, the end of the sleeve tends to protect the surface of the panel. The screwdriver shank may include a larger diameter portion (7) to fit inside the top of the sleeve, to fit against a locating shoulder. A locking ring (9) can be fitted between them. In alternative designs, the sleeve can have a bell mouth, and may be flange at the end near the tip.
