Epicyclic gearing with stationary ring or sun gear - has brake action provided by increasing mesh of planet gears to cause friction

Epicyclic gearing comprising a sun gear (4), a set of planet gears (3) and a stationary ring gear (2), has a brake comprising a second ring gear (8) meshing with toothed axial extensions of teh planet gears. The second ring gear is rotatable through a small angle e.g. by a lever. The rotation of the second gear causes interference as regards the meshing with the planet gears and the friction created in this way has a braking effect. If the gearing has a stationary sun gear, a like brake can be constructed by a second sun gear.
