Removal of impurities contg. Hg in gases is achieved by passage through a filter bed contg. an absorbent, consisting of natural sulphide mineral(s), synthesised metal sulphide(s) and/or S on a support, pref. of an (in)organic porous material, i.e. siliceous minerals, sponge rubber or cellular plastics. The Hg is fixed by conversion to the sulphide, which has a low solubility prod. and also a very low vapour pressure by exchange with the metal sulphide. This process is simple, causes little drop in the gas pressure and can be used with acid gases, e.g. waste gas from factories and non-ferrous metal refining.
|
