1537177 Cutting tools KENNAMETAL Inc 21 June 1977 [29 June 1976] 25782/77 Heading B3B A cutting insert 14 for mounting, e.g. in a milling cutter body, comprises a regular polygonal body having parallel faces 24 and peripheral walls 30, 32, 34, 36 which form cutting edges at the juncture of the walls and faces, each wall having a plurality of grooves 22 extending perpendicular to said faces and dividing each cutting edge into discrete portions, the grooves being different in number on any two cutting edges so that each insert in said milling cutter body can be indexed to a position so that the un-machined ridges left by the grooves on one insert are removed by the discrete portions of the cutting edge of the following insert. As described the grooves are on two of the cutting edges 30, 32, and four grooves are on the cutting edges 34, 36 so that grooves and discrete portions are staggered when considering said edges in a superimposed relationship. |
