One-piece cast vehicle wheel - has final shape formed by spinning and rolling of well and rim

The vehicle wheel has a rim suitable for use with a tubeless tyre and formed from a light alloy casting. The raw casting (1) has a cylindrical outer surface (2) with a dished web (3) joined to the cylindrical portion midway along its length. The outer face (4) of the web is machined and a hole bored in the centre to enable the casting to be mounted on a spinning lathe. The outer wall is then formed by rollers which reduce the wall thickness and at the same time presses it into a flattened roughly V shaped cross-section of a typical automobile wheel rim.
