The gear pump or motor has externally meshing gear wheels (1, 2) whose drive shaft (3) is carried in a housing (6) with cylindrical outer surface and in an end cover (4), the shaft being driven via a gear wheel (5) on the shaft end extending outside the housing. The cylindrical outer housing surface is a close fit in a further component (7) and co-axial to the pitch circle (9) of the drive wheel (5). The addendum circle diameter of the wheel (5) is pref. smaller than the outside diameter of the housing. The pump inlet and outlet ducts may end in ports in the cylindrical outer housing surface.
