The crankshaft for a multi-cylinder engine in V-formation has hardened journals and pins, with the hardened area extending to the rounded parts of the adjoining crank webs. The hardened area is interrupted approx. at half the crank -pin length, and forms an annular softer area. This ensures that a permanent adjustment of the hardened crankshaft is possible, without the surface hardening being limited on the highly strained hollow throats and the transfer areas to the crank webs. The softer area normally is located between the fitment points of the large ends of two adjacent connecting rods.
|
