Automatic control for electronic flash - operates with flash duration varied in steps to conserve battery power

The control panel(1) for the electronic flash has a simple slider to set the film speed and object distance. It displays the flash guide number and exposure details. The slider also operates a stepped control for the charging level of the main capacitor to conserve battery power. For e.g. close-up flash exposures, a low flash charge is used and the capacitor is not charged up to its full voltage. The capacitor is charged so that it can adequately cope with the set exposure and does not waste any excess charge.
