A hydraulic shock absorber, reducing useless stroke by minimizing the volume reduction of the gas chamber cased bu assembling the piston rod to the cylinder, and easily assembled with a stopper or an oil seal to the cylinder, comprises of a cylinder having a discharge hole formed at the open end, a hollow piston rod having a 1st piston fixed to the open end and a 2nd piston fixed to the end opposite the 1st piston, and a free piston inserted into the rod.
