The device consists of a circuit which in case of overload at least partially blocks the transistor. The signal input of the transistor (2) is connected directly or through a drive stage (3) to a semiconductor diode (5) operated in inverse sense, so that when the diode blocking effect is reduced, the input voltage, thus also the output current are reduced. The transistor (2) and diode (5) are thermally interconnected with each other by a heat conducting device (4).
