High speed noiseless printer - projects symbols onto light sensitive surface for subsequent developing

A transparent tape (1) bearing the symbol set (2) on one track has a second track for the symbol codings (3). The tape moves around a motor (4) powered roller and a guide roller located at either end of the platen. A movable carriage (5) supports the tape illuminating head. The head comprises a light source (6) with reflector (7) aperture (8) optical lenses (10) and a code reading unit (12). The light source is in the form of a bar extending over the width of a line. Symbols are projected onto a light sensitive surface (11) which can be developed in conventional ways.
