applying a thermal spray coating to the piston ring, the thermal spray coating containing tungsten carbide, chromium carbide and nickel, wherein the thermal spray coating is formed by spraying a thermal spray powder that contains tungsten carbide particles in which the mean particle diameter of the tungsten carbide particles is in a range of not less than 0.15 μm and not more than 0.45 μm. |
