Flexible packet tying machine - has arms moved to grip packet through spring loaded lost motion connection

The machine for tying parcels has laterally spaced arms (16), connected by a tie (18). They are mounted on a rotary shaft (17) carried by a support (12). The arms can swing freely towards the side of the support. The packet to be tied is held by the free ends of the arms when in a lowered position. A member (25) moves up and down causing oscillation of a bent lever (21, 22) alongside. The movement of one arm (22) is imparted to lever (19) which is connected to shaft (17) through a spring loaded lost motion connection (28 to 31). Pin (43) causes spring loaded latch (40) to engage so that arms (16) hold down whilst the packet is tied. A rotary cam then releases latch (40) and spring (38) returns the arms and lever upwardly for the next cycle.
