The mechanism collects and destroys undersized potatoes lifted by a potato digger machine, having a conveyor belt composed of parallel bars delivering the lifted tubers, earth and haulm to conventional sorting mechanisms, together with a collector belt onto which the small tubers separated by this belt are delivered. It comprises a drum (21), forcing the small tubers still jammed between the bars of the first conveyor belt bottom run through them, onto the top run of the collector belt (19), which delivers them between crushing rollers or into a similar type of mechanism. The drum can be mounted between the top and bottom runs of the first belt, (7), the bottom run of the latter being pressed against the drum by one or more rollers (22).
