An appts. for selecting and inserting a weft is used for an easy control of selecting time without any impaction during operation. An intermediate and a controlling arm, which is to drive length measuring device, gripping device and weft jet nozzle, are combined for controlling reciprocal motion of a loom, and the combination is opened by the motion of intermediate. The impaction is prevented by linking elastically the combination to the lever movable by the weaving pattern and thus giving time lag to the combination before opening.
