Ester mixture with neutral taste and odour, low turbidity point, low evaporation loss at elevated temp., and viscosity and density that can be adjusted as required, consists of esterification prods. of 1 mol glycerol with 1.4-2.8 (pref. 1.6-2.6) mol of a satd. 6-10C aliphatic monocarboxylic acid or mixt. of such acids and 0.1-0.8 (pref. 0.2-0.7) mol of succinic acid or succinic anhydride, and has a hydroxyl number of 5-20 and an acid number of 5 (pref. 1). The mixts. are useful both in the cosmetic/pharmaceutical sector and in the technical sector (e.g. in metal moulding, glass fibre handling, lubricant additives etc.). The mixts. are better than natural oils w.r.t. turbidity point and stability towards oxidn., and their viscosity and density can be adjusted to suit a wide range of applications.
