A coin operated gaming machine of the fruit machine type has two series of symbols on each disc that are selectively activated. The front plate (2) of the gaming machine has a number of viewing apertures (6) aligned with rotating drums (3) on a common axis. The surface of the drums has one set of symbols located on an inner skin (10). A second set of symbols is formed in luminescent form on an outer skin (12). When an internal lamp (11) is activated the inner set of symbols is visible. A U.V. lamp (13) is activated to allow the outer set of symbols to be viewed.
