<p>The couch in a compartment in a railway carriage is designed to fold down. There are vertical wall-mounted sliding or roller guideways, with stops limiting the setting movement of the sidepieces, together with hinge arms hinged to head and foot cross pieces. There is a bolt, influenced by a spring on one side, engaging a fixed self-retaining notch when the couch attains the recumbent position. This causes the couch to be held clamped between the stop in the guideway and the notch. The cross piece can be fitted with a spring-held push or pull rod with bolting lag and end handle.</p> |
