The apparatus is for handling by a single operator and has a basic part (1), forming a reference point when set up on a tripod (1-5), which can be adjusted for uneven ground. The basic part can be vertically adjusted by a precise fixed measuring tube (7) coupled to a calibrated measuring tube (11) for coarse adjustment. Fine adjustment is obtained by a circular level (13) coupled to a measuring liquid tank (15) by a connector (15). A levelling set transmits each desired, precise, survey point to a height level sensor. Preferably there is a reel (11) for winding the desired length of the measuring hose (12). The height level sensor with the hose may be embedded in organic glass and may carry a scale.
