Housings for holding electrical and measuring devices and instruments in switchgear units etc., are secured by special locking devices. Each housing is shaped as an open fronted box with a flange around the open front. The box is inserted in an opening until located by the flange. The locking device has an L-shaped block (12) which is inserted in a correspondingly shaped opening (19) in the rear of the housing (3/5) and locked by a threaded spindle (14). The block has one arm (13) internally threaded to act as a nut on the spindle. A second arm (16) projecting from it, has a double T-shaped extension (17) which fits into the opening. This opening is a slot with two wider portions, and a narrow neck between, also a narrow locating part (22) at one end.
