The lock has a cover (8) fixed to the column (1) which carries with slight friction the cage (10) which in turn carries three rollers (11). The rollers are held within the cylinder jacket (12) which has ramped recesses in it so that the rollers are either free in the recesses or are locked tight to the cylinder jacket walls. The cam (18) maintains the spring loaded bolt (19) in a recess (22) so that the rollers are always within their recesses and are free to rotate. When the lever (17) is turned the bolt springs out and rotation of the steering wheel turns the rollers out of the recesses and locks the action.
