A method for heat-treating fine-grain materials such as raw cement meals comprises preheating the material, introducing the preheated material to a rotary kiln for subsequent calcining, introducing fuel to the kiln to contact with the preheated material immediately following introduction of the material to the kiln, and combusting the fuel virtually entirely in the kiln.
