3,4-Disubstituted-benzothiazole-2-one or benzoxazole-2-one derivs.(I; R1 = halogen, methyl; R2 = methyl, ethyl; X= O,S), useful as fungicide, were prepd. by alkylation of 3-nonsubstituted compd.(II) with alkylating agent. Thus, 2-met-hylthio-4-methylbenzothiazole 18.0 g and dimethylsulfate 15.1g were mixed, stirred for 10 hr at 80≦̸C and recrystallized to give 3,4-dimethylbenzothiazolone 15.8g.
