Water is supplied to the centre of the sphere through the orifice (2) of the feed pipe (1). The inner volume (3) is pressurised such that the water flows equally through the tubes into the outer volume (5). The outer sphere which has a matt-black surface finish receives the concentrated solar radiation through reflecting cones and the water is thus heated before passing through an array of orifices in the intermediate sphere. The hot water stored between the intermediate sphere and the inner sphere flow back through a network of pipes to the collecting pipes (8) and eventually to the flow pipe (9). The fixed sphere receives a constant level of radiation from the sun but the efficiency is further increased by a reflecting, mobile mirror (J) which ensures radiation to the shaded side of the sphere.
