Stack of core laminations for electricity meters - where laminations are joined together by projection welding during assembly of stack

Each lamination is made out of electrical steel sheet, and is provided with several projections used in spot welding to make a mechanical bond between the laminations in the stack. The pref. welding machine employed for joining the laminations together includes an upper electrode (3) and a lower electrode (4), each of which have projections (3a) matching the projections (2) stamped in each lamination. Electrodes (3,4) pref. have insulation (3b) located between projections (3a) and supporting the laminations. Each lamination is pref. fed into the welder as continuous, stamped strip.
