Fuel injection system for IC engine - has non-return diaphragm valve system to maintain pressure with engine stopped

The fuel injection system for an i.c. engine has a pump (19) supplying fuel from tank (20) via pressure reservoir (21) and filter (22) to a metering valve (10). Fuel is injected by injector (34). Pressure is maintained in the system by diaphragm valve (72) combined with a non-return valve (83). The opening pressure of the non-return valve is less than, but very near the pressure at which the diaphragm valve opens. This ensures that fuel pressure is maintained in the system for some time after the engine has stopped and makes re-starting easier.
