<p>The tipping wing (1,2) for wind-powered propulsion of vehicles, partic. watercraft, has an asymmetrical profile (X) and is pivoted horizontally along its longitudinal axis (a - b). When going about, it is inverted to maintain aerodynamic effectiveness. The wing may be foldable or telescopic, the lower half being folded/retracted while the upper is fully spread. One craft may carry several such units, in tandem and/or in parallel. Either pivot point (a,b) may embody means - mechanical, hydraulic, electrical or any of these in combination - for adjusting the wind angle-of-attack.</p> |
